In 1962 the first Havaianas were made. They were based on the design of the Zori which is a Japanese style sandal. The Zori had fabric straps and rice straw soles, which is why to this day the Havaianas still maintain this distinctive textured rice feature on them. Havianas started in Brazil, and gained world recognition in 1998, after the company developed a style of the sandals for the World Cup that featured the Brazilian flag on them.
The name Havaianas in Portuguese means ‘Hawaiians’ which immediately makes you think of sun, sea and sand and the thought of exotic holidays. These wonderful sandals were once available in 8 different colours but after expanding dramatically, they can now be bought in 20 shades to give a greater selection to choose from.
Havaianas continued to grow and expand and began to cater for a larger audience such as children by giving birth to the Havaianas Baby. A variety of different styles were also created including Havaianas Slim and a special edition created in a partnership with H.Stern the jeweller which featured diamonds with an 18 karat gold finish. Now everyone in the world has the opportunity to wear this funky brand with pride. Havaianas can be purchased around the globe and continue to go strength by strength.
The simple construction of the ever popular sandal offers its customers odourless footwear featuring a rubber, durable sole to make them last forever. There is a whole host of famous celebrities wearing these fresh and fabulous sandals including Jennifer Aniston, Britney Spears, Sienna Miller, Ashley Olsen, Kirsten Dunst and the list goes on…
