Terry was first introduced to shoe making by his parents in the 1950’s, who themselves manufactured shoes in London’s east end. Terry took over the thriving family business in 1970 and they continued to do well until the 1980’s when casual shoe become more popular.
After re-launching the brand in 2004 Terry De Havilland has not only become popular with luxury retailers and boutiques across the globe it’s also a favourite of celebrities such as Kate Moss, Mischa Barton, Cherly Cole AND Amy Winehouse. Our First season with Terry De Havilland is sure to be a good one, as always the spring summer collection is elegant, stylish, Wacky and colourful.
Terry De Havilland first began his fashion career at the tender age of five years old as a helper in the workshop of his parents’ shoe company ‘Waverley Shoes’. In 1960 he began designing shoes for the family business and the opening of his first store ‘Cobblers’ in 1972 saw him attracting celebrity fans such as Bette Midler, Elton John, Shirley Bassey and Bianca Jagger. The brand also thrived when they were asked to design a pair of designer shoes featured in Tim Curry’s costume in ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’; 1997 saw him produce a pair of stunning designer footwear for the BAFTA award winning film: ‘The Velvet Goldmine’ and the Havilland brand were also responsible for Angelina Jolie’s boots in the hit movie ‘Tomb Raider’.
2002 saw stores closing as they focused on modifying and re-launching the brand and it is no wonder that in 2006 he was nominated by the British Fashion Awards as ‘Accessory Designer of the Year’ due to his status as the ‘Rock and Roll Cobbler’ and the huge cult following he has amassed amongst fans.
