The theme for one of the biggest fashion events of the year has been announced – technology. The theme is said to originate from how technology has shaped and changed fashion over time, and the outfits are expected to be as eccentric as ever. Naturally, the event is sponsored by Apple, with Apple’s Johnny Ive chairing the event alongside Taylor Swift, Anna Wintour and Karl Lagerfield, just to name a few.
The show itself will feature over 100 pieces that incorporate established artisanal techniques, such as lace and pleated designs. These show a clear contrast with more modern machine-made techniques, that have arguably caused more traditional designs to be overlooked in the fashion industry in recent years. Real-time workshops will allow guests to observe the process in which the exquisite garments are created.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s forthcoming Costume Institute exhibition, more commonly known as the Met Ball, will take place on May 2nd 2016.
