Guys, the news you’ve been wanting to hear all along is finally here: You really can wear trainers with anything – you just need the right trainers first. One of the top fashion trends for SS18 is ‘Retro Sports’, with catwalks showing how everybody can rock the sports look any day of the week, and not just at the gym or on the sports field.
Here’s how the world’s fashion houses celebrated the retro sports and sports luxe men’s fashion trends on the SS18 catwalks:
Yes, shell suits, shiny fabrics and bright colours are back and it looks like they’ll be sticking around, which means so will the sporty trainers.
With these big trends floating around it’s becoming easier and much more acceptable to wear those chunky sports trainers with practically any casual outfit without anyone asking ‘Oh, are you off to the gym?’. Here’s a few of our favourite styles of trainers and how to wear them:
Daniel Kicks Woven Trainers
Kicking things off with our most classic sporty trainers style the Daniel Kicks woven trainers are the perfect balance between sports and luxury fashion. Their shape and chunky white sole scream track and field, but their knitted, woven uppers and monochrome colourway says something a little smarter. Styling classic sporty trainer styles with casual clothing can be tricky, sometimes resulting in bulky and awkward looks, but do it right and you’ve got a great outfit on your hands.
Pair these with slim-fit nude chinos and black sweater for a really put-together look, or if you want to go down the jeans route then make sure that these, too, are slim fitting and kept simple with a plain T-shirt up top. Turn up slim or skinny jeans and ditch the socks for extra style points.
Daniel Pilsdon Suede High Tops
The high top style is back again and brings with it the nostalgic retro sports vibes of the 80’s and 90s. These Pilson suede and leather high tops from Daniel are the perfect pared-back option for matching with a wide range of casual and even smart casual outfits.
Show them off with a pair of wide-leg cropped trousers, or pair them up with black slim fit jeans and a white T-shirt for a classic monochrome casual look. If you want to smarten up even more, swap the jeans for a pair of slim chinos and a layer a blazer over the T-shirt.
Daniel Penalta Leather Lace Ups
One of our favourite styles for all-round fashion is the refined luxury sneaker style, and the Daniel Penalta leather lace ups fall firmly and perfectly into this category. Taking the classic sporty tennis shoe and giving it a makeover in high quality leather, these trainers suddenly become acceptable to wear in a whole lot of scenarios and with a whole lot of outfits.
Pair these with dark wash denim, hoodies and sweaters for a laidback weekend casual look, or wear with tailored trousers and a smart shirt for an unexpectedly stylish smart casual ensemble.
Roberto Santi White Leather Trainers
You can’t beat a box fresh pair of white trainers for completing a casual outfit. They’re slick, they’re bright and they’re incredibly easy to pull off. These Roberto Santi white leather trainers are the perfect example of what we’re talking about, and they’ll see you through a surprising range of occasions and outfit styles.
Of course, you can’t go wrong with pairing these with your favourite jeans, and pretty much any colour of denim will work fine with these, given that they’re white. But did you know you could also pair these trainers with a suit? Yes, you read that right, we did say suit. So long as your trainers are solid white or solid black and not too chunky, you can pair them up with tailored trousers, blazers and full suits and it really will work. Try matching your shirt or T-shirt to the colour of your trainers to create a more considered look, or people might think you just forgot to change your shoes.
