The wait is over for fashionistas everywhere as the biannual event of New York fashion week has arrived. Celebrities, designers, editors and fashion influencers everywhere have been gathering together for the opening events. Ralph Lauren opened the show with what has been described as a “monumental moment in American fashion history” as it celebrated him being in the fashion business for 50 years.
As we have been preparing ourselves for yet another cold winter, Spring/Summer 2019 has been unleashed on the runway. Animal print, tassels and tie dye seem to be stealing the show this year and there’s a lot more to come with London, Milan and Paris just around the corner.
Spring/Summer 2019 is looking bright, millennium pink and lavender have had their moments this year, but it looks like the brighter the better for next year. Yellow has been splashed all over the runways in several different shades with over 20 different designers making this key colour shine down for Spring 2019.
White also seems to be a top pick for a lot of designers, it started earlier this year with the 90’s inspired white shoe trend making a comeback and has evolved massively since then to an all- white, head to toe trend.
Other colours which have made an impression this year are powder blue, sage green and auburn red.
Animal print has made a full comeback just in time for fashion week and designers such as Tom Ford and Michael Kors have taken this to a whole new level. Seen both on and off the runway, leopard print stole the show along with zebra, snake, tiger and cow print. A lot of designers have also been taking you back to the 1960’s with the much-loved hippy inspired tie-dye trend. This fun, statement design is the perfect way to refresh your spring/summer wardrobe.
Tailored trousers and structured jackets have been taking the runway by storm. The 1980’s ‘power suit’ has been spotted up and down the runway and is back for Spring/Summer 2019. Fitted and fabulous or over-sized and chic, this must have trend is one to get on board with.
Oversized Accessories are also being talked a lot about and it seems the bigger the better. Big statement hoops have always been a go to accessory for several years and it looks like this trend is going to last for several more. Statement necklaces and headscarves have been the go to finishing touches for most designers.
Other trends from fashion week to look out for are girly elegant frills, sheer material and western inspired designs.
Anna Wintour described Spring/Summer 2019 as bright, positive and full of energy and we can’t wait to see these trends come to life next year.
